What is Sickie Cell? Do your child is also suffering from this disease?
Memory Mwanza was born in Zambia in the family of 7 and she was the 6 th born. She has 4 children and all are boys. She didn’t know about Sickie Cell until she had her first son. She is an Internationally Published Author. Memory Mwanza and her husband Kennedy Mwanza wrote a book to help people from Sickie Cell what they went through.
Let’s find more about Memory Mwanza and her experience.
1. What’s the title of the Book?
Living with Sickle Cell Children- The Voice
2. Great ! Why you have chosen this title of your Book?
It’s a way of us talking about the issues we experience and experienced. As some people tend to stay quite like we did and as we talk we hope there can be easy access to cure for many people.
3. Soo nice thought! Can you give a very short summary of the book ?
Its about 2 boys and the family who have experienced the extreme complications with sickle cell and its crisis. One of the boy died and was resuscitated. He is now doing ok after receiving Stem cell treatment. The family has another boy who has the same condition and are in constant worry of his health.
4. That’s interesting and emotional at the same time. Many people don’t know about Sickie cell. Can you please describe it to your readers ?
Sickle Cell is a blood disorder, the cells are meant to be round but in sickle patients they’re S shaped which make it hard to pass through the veins and they tend to be treated as infection and gets trapped causing low blood count anaemia.
5. Quite dangerous! Can you let your readers know What issues you faced while writing the book ?
We had to start and stop writing due to childcare when he was in hospital. Financial problems to get the book edited and published. Finding publisher was also a challenge.
6. That’s really sounds difficult but What inspired you to write this book ?
What we went through and also seeing other people going through the same difficulties of the disease and they had no idea. So many were going through the same problem and this is there help. Some people have gone through abortion for the fear of the complications and they have regret it afterwards. The awareness to be able to help someone and also for the people to check before they get involved with someone, as the outcome of having a sickle cell child is daunting. We also want to spread awareness of the disease or of someone have the same condition.
7. Nice Inspiration! What’s your target readers ?
Before the condition was in Africa and Asia but now as we have mixed bloods we would want everyone to know about it. As even if they’re not from these backgrounds, they may have someone a friend who might be going through these problems.
8. Very nice ! Are you and your husband both an Author?
Yes, we both are Author.
9. Amazing! Is it your first Book?
Yes
10. What made you an author?
Love of writing
11. Nice but what made you love for writing?
I initially found myself writing most of the time when my son was in hospital. People used to asked questions about the issues , then I refer to the idea of writing a book.
12. Soo nice idea ! Can you please send your pictures and the cover page of your book ?
